FIVE Reasons why you should use Tanalbit Plant Tannins for GI health
Tanalbit is a gastrointestinal support product whose simple, elegant mechanism allows it to:
1) Support a healthy balance of intestinal yeast and flora (bacteria)*
2) Target all areas of the gastrointestine*
3) Work consistently without causing resistance buildup (unlike other products, Tanalbit does not dissolve cellular walls, an action that releases toxins into the body)*
4) Enact supportive antioxidant activity*
5) Work safely – For over 30 years, Tanalbit has proven to be a successful gastrointestinal support product. Its condensed plant tannin based formula is both non-toxic and not absorbed by the liver.
How Tanalbit Works
Tanalbit contains a proprietary blend of Zinc Tannates, composed of Plant tannins, zinc and amino acids. When ingested, the body recognizes the Zinc Tannate complex as a protein and as a consequence shuttles it past stomach digestive juices to the larger and lower intestine, areas often in need of supportive action. With elegant chemistry, Tanalbit supports a healthy balance of yeast and bacteria colonies by assisting the body’s removal of overgrowth. It naturally adheres to biofilm receptor sites via chelation and/or covalent bonding. This action disrupts colonization and isolates the biofilm, which then becomes a target for the body’s normal metabolic and elimination processes.
Comprehensive Action: How Tanalbit supports the whole body
Digestion: Undigested or partially digested food proteins in the gastrointestine may heighten or exacerbate food sensitivity and/or indigestion. Plant tannin chemistry allows for Tanalbit to bind to those proteinous substances (oligopeptides and peptones) and therefore it can be used to help support the body’s elimination process of those undigested or partially digested proteins.
Healthier GI environment: The active ingredients in Tanalbit, plant tannins, support cellular health, meaning they support intestinal wall integrity and therefore activity of gastrointestinal cells. This occurs because astringency, a natural characteristic of plant tannins, supports the body’s ability to reduce cellular inflammation. As it travels through the gastrointestine, Tanalbit provides supportive action along the way.
Detoxification: Chelation exhibited by plant tannins also extends to heavy metals. In so doing, Tanalbit can support the body’s natural detoxification process.
Skin Care: External skin issues often have an “interior” cause. Supporting gastrointestinal health and flora balance can support healthier looking skin.
Frequently Asked Questions About Tanalbit
1. What are Tannins?
2. Are Tannins safe? Is Tanalbit non-toxic?
3. Does Tanalbit affect beneficial bacteria? Will it deplete minerals?
4. Are there contraindications for Tanalbit?
5. Why does Tanalbit contain milk?

6. Should I use Tanalbit or Viracin? When should I use them together?
What are Tannins?
Tannins are water soluble, polyphenolic compounds and are either hydrolyzable or condensed. Tannins have astringent and antioxidant properties. Tannins give the bitter taste to black teas, the strong taste to red wines and are a significant component of Redwood Tree bark, giving it the bark its distinctive red color. The plant tannins found in Tanalbit are condensed tannins.
Are Tannins taken in a dietary supplement safe?
Yes. Tanalbit contains condensed plant tannins. Condensed tannins have antioxidant activity properties and support GI health and healing. Tannins taken as a dietary supplement, drunk as teas or in wine, eaten in fruits or food have been shown to exhibit antioxidant activity that supports a healthy body.
Tanalbit is complexed with milk derived proteins/amino acids which allows the formula to directly target the GI tract and mitigate possible irritation caused by tannic acid. In addition, milk proteins also help to mitigate any anti-nutritive effects of tannins. Tanalbit is non-toxic and can safely be taken by a variety of individuals.
Please note: If you are suffering from a nutrient deficiency, have malabsorption or other conditions that results in low nutrient levels (including Calcium, Iron), out of abundance of caution, do not Tanalbit or any other dietary supplement before speaking with your health professional or personal physician. If your physician approves use of Tanalbit, consider supplementing with a comprehensive Multivitamin.
Does Tanalbit affect beneficial bacteria? Will it deplete minerals?
Tanalbit will not significantaly affect beneficial bacteria levels. Often we suggest using a probiotic after a Tanalbit regimen and using a comprehensive multivitamin to ensure proper mineral balance because imbalanced flora can contribute to nutrient deficiencies.
Are there contraindications for Tanalbit? What about side effects?
Occasionally individuals may experience temporary constipation after taking Tanalbit. To avoid temporary constipation, increase water intake while taking Tanalbit and consider taking a Magnesium supplement. Sometimes tannins may cause nausea or upset stomach. To prevent this, take Tanalbit with a small, protein snack.
Tannins, the active ingredients in Tanalbit, may interfere with the absorption or efficacy of some medications. They may also not be recommended for individuals with significant nutrient deficiencies or individuals with chronic maladies or under physician supervision for serious ailments. Please consult with your health professional prior to introducing Tanalbit. There are some known contraindications for tannins (general) and medications. Please click on the Ingredients tab for additional information.

Why does Tanalbit contain milk?
The complex milk proteins (casein, proline, hydroxyproline) in Tanalbit act as potent buffers. They serve to transport the Tanalbit complex past the degrading acids of the stomach into the large intestine and colon. Milk protein powder also acts to mitigate any anti-nutritive effects of tannins.
Tanalbit contains high heat milk powder which, as a consequence of its manufacture, contains mostly denatured, less allergenic proteins. Tanalbit may therefore be suitable for those with milk sensitivity (check with your allergist first) but it is not recommended for those with milk allergies. Tanalbit will not cause problems for individuals with lactose intolerance (where the issue is milk sugar not milk protein). The milk proteins Tanalbit will neither cause nor exacerbate mycelia growth.
If you have a milk allergy, do not take the product and consult your health professional if he or she has suggested it for you. Consider our milk-free plant tannins, Viracin, or Tabit. Viracin and Tabit may be helpful for healthy bacteria balance support and immune support.
Why does Tanalbit contain Zinc? Is Zinc absorbed?
The zinc in Tanalbit activates the complex and acts as a buffer. It lessens potential irritability caused by tannins and allows the complex to travel through the GI. As part of the Zinc Tannate complex, Zinc is not "available" and not absorbed.
Should I use Tanalbit or Viracin? When should I use them together?
Tanalbit and Viracin rely on the astringent and antioxidant activity properties of plant tannins. Each contain different tannin extracts which themselves behave differently.

Tannins may interfere with the absorption/effectiveness of medication. Check with your health professional BEFORE adding Tanalbit to your regimen. Because tannins are astringents, Tanalbit® may cause temporary constipation. If this occurs, use Magnesium/Vitamin C Supplement and increase water intake by at least three 8 oz glasses per day. Tanalbit may also cause nausea. If this occurs, take Tanalbit with a small amount of food or 10 minutes after a small snack.
Warning: Keep the bottle closed in a cool, dry place and out of the reach of children. Consult a health care professional before adding Tanalbit to your daily regimen, especially if you are taking medication or if you have a medical condition. Tanalbit is NOT recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers. Note: Tanalbit contains natural ingredients and color may vary from batch to batch.
What is the suggested dosage for Tanalbit?
2 capsules, 3 times daily and increase water intake two-fold. As a general rule, water will help improve digestion, eliminate toxins and prevent dehydration and temporary constipation. Dosage suggested for 4-6 weeks or as prescribed by your health professional or physician. Tanalbit performs best on a relatively empty stomach, before meals. *Ideally at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals. If you cannot tolerate Tanalbit on an empty stomach, take your suggested dosage with a small protein snack. If you are using Tanalbit for skin health, suggested dosage is 2 servings daily for at least 2 weeks. When taking Tanalbit for food sensitivity or indigestion, take 1 to 2 capsules right after a meal. Questions? Email our nutrition guru, Olivia Melaugh, at firstname.lastname@example.org for help.
Do not take Tanalbit after large meals or at the same time as other supplements/medications. Allow at least 1 hour between Tanalbit and other dietary supplements; Tanalbit needs to work without competition from other supplements / medications. Tanalbit works in a gradual manner hence the need for a larger dosage as well as a regimen that works throughout the day instead of all at once.
Some basic rules: avoid excess sugar, refined carbohydrates and citrus.
A maintenance dosage is suggested after 4 weeks of Tanalbit, but please consult with your health professional before starting a maintenance program. An example program: The first week, bring dosage down to 5 capsules/daily, the second week 4 capsules/daily, the third week 3 capsules/daily, the fourth week 2 capsules/daily and the fifth week 1 capsule daily.
