What is sulforaphane? |

It is the broccoli sprout, NOT the mature broccoli plant we
eat, which exhibits the highest levels of sulforaphane. The sulforaphane
levels of the mature broccoli plant are relatively non-existent.
Pesticides and poor soil conditions effect the nutritional quality of our fruits
and vegetables. Even organic produce varies greatly in nutritional
content. Remember the old adage, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Indole-3-carbinol (C9H9NO)
is produced by the breakdown of the glucosinolate
glucobrassicin compound concentrated in high amounts in
cruciferous vegetables, e.g. broccoli, brussels sprouts,
cabbage. Indole-3-carbinols have been shown (in cellular
and animal studies) to have benefits for prostate and
breast health. Specifically for breast health,
indole-3-carbinols alters estrogen metabolism (possible
inactivation). |
Who should consider
this formula?
Individuals who are interested in increasing their
intake of potent antioxidants, especially those who are
over the age of 45. Anyone who feels they get an
inadequate intake of vegetables or who are concerned
about the remaining nutrient content of the vegetables
they do consume. |
